As we in the US prepare for our Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow, I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you for your support over the past year. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your insightful questions and article ideas you send me as well as your willingness to share the smallfoodbiz.com site with other food entrepreneurs and budding entrepreneurs you know. I am so grateful for your help in building our food artisan community.
On a similar note, now is a great time to express your thanks to those people who have supported you this past year. You may be doing some of that over the Thanksgiving table tomorrow with your family and/or friends, but I’d also encourage you to share a note of thanks on your social media channels so that your customers and followers know how important they are to the very success of your business.
And lastly, I am a firm believer in karma so I want to take a moment to remind everyone that this Saturday is ‘Small Business Saturday’ which is an effort to encourage people to purchase from small retailers and independently owned businesses over mass manufactured products and mega stores. I’d like to encourage you to keep your holiday shopping ‘small’ as much as possible and support other entrepreneurs and small businesses. Even if you, like me, aren’t a fan of trying to wade through the holiday shopping madness that is ‘Black Friday’ and the associated holiday weekend, even if you don’t shop small on Saturday, it would be great if you would make a commitment to shop small at some point during your holiday gift buying. It may not seem like much to you, but I promise you it seems like a lot to the entrepreneur you’re purchasing from.
Happy Thanksgiving (to those in the US) – I’ll see you next week after the turkey’s been carved, the pies consumed, and the holiday season has truly begun in earnest!
