I know the title of today’s article sounds crazy to some as it seems like we small entrepreneurs spend an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out how to better engage and grow our social media influence amongst consumers; but believe it or not, there may be times when you do need to ban someone from your business Facebook Page.
For me this happened recently when a business that was not affiliated with mine in any way kept posting comments about what they could offer on the Small Food Business Facebook page. These messages were posted directly onto my company’s timeline so it looked like, to many of you, that they were either in partnership with Small Food Business or that I endorsed them in some way or another.
Now, this other business may indeed be the best thing to happen to food entrepreneurs since sliced bread, but they’d never asked about posting on the page nor had they ever contacted me directly. I have no idea what they offer and/or whether it’s competitive to what others in their line of work offer. Basically, they were spamming my page and after deleting a half dozen of their posts over the past few months, I finally got sick of it and decided to ban them entirely.
I realized that this is a nifty trick to know as you may find yourself one day deleting posts from competitors or even from products/companies that have no relation to you and who simply want to get in front of your audience.
Steps To Ban Someone From Your Business Facebook Page:
- Log into your Business Facebook Page;
- Click on the ‘Settings’ Heading at the top right of your screen;
- In the column on the left-hand side of your screen, click on ‘People and Other Pages’;
- Find the individual(s) whom you want to ban from your page
- Click the downward facing arrow to the right of that person’s name and click ‘Ban from Page’.
Once someone has been banned from your page they will no longer be able to publish anything to your business Facebook page be it messages to your timeline or comment on anything you post.
I certainly hope you never have to utilize this social media trick but would love to hear if any of you have faced anything similar and, if so, how you handled it.
