Be Careful How Passionate You Are About Your Business

valentine food sales, valentine candy, food business salesMany of us food entrepreneurs would argue that love is a major component in our products. But, according to the FDA, is it not a legal ingredient.

Nashoba Brooks bakery of Massachusetts found this out the hard way when they received a warning letter late last year from the FDA over their listing of ‘love’ as one of their ingredients in their granola.

“Love”, the letter stated, “is not a common or usual name of an ingredient, and is considered to be intervening material because it is not part of the common or usual name of the ingredient.”

So no matter how much love and passion you pour into your business – make sure you don’t list that on your ingredient panel! (Just in case you think this is an early April Fool’s joke, you can view the FDA’s warning letter by clicking here.)
