What Do You Keep Procrastinating On?

time managementOk, here we are at the first Monday of what is not only a new month but also a new quarter. And yes, I realize that for many reading it is also the beginning of a holiday week but let’s put that aside for a moment. I want you to think about what it is in your business you’ve been procrastinating about? What one task, project, or element have you been purposefully avoiding?

Chances are, as much as you hate to admit it, this is a question you can answer quite easily. So now here’s your homework. This quarter your goal is to get that item crossed off your to do list. For some of you it may be as simple as an email you’ve been meaning to send out but haven’t and you only need 20 minutes to get it tapped out. But for others it may be a larger project that needs some more time so that’s why I’m giving you the entire quarter to get it done.

It’s important to work on this piece of procrastination not just to complete it but also because psychologists have found that these tasks we push off again and again actually start to carry some emotional weight to them. These tasks are always somewhere at the back of our mind poking us every so often with a reminder that we should be working on them. And that’s emotional energy we could be using is so many other places in our lives and businesses.

So this quarter your goal is to get that thing – whatever it is – done. If you’re so inclined, share with us on Facebook what it is you’re working on this quarter. We’d love to help keep you accountable!
