Why Is It So Hard For Food Crowdfunding Sites To Succeed?

online storeWord came at the end of March that PieShell, a crowdfunding site focused on the food and beverage industry was shutting down. The company reported a lack of investors as the reason behind the demise of the site.

Anytime a portal dedicated to connecting capital with food startups closes it’s sad news for the industry and it made me wonder. Why was there a lack of investors? Why do food businesses continue to face an uphill climb when it comes to finding capital for their companies? It is our value proposition? Our profit projections? Our growth opportunities (or lack of them)?

I don’t have any answers for these but it seems as though this is one consistent problem food entrepreneurs face that no one has really figured out how to solve yet.
