Instagram Testing In-App Check-Out Feature

Some interesting news if you use Instagram as a consumer and/or as a brand; it appears as though, via this article from Fortune, that Instagram is currently beta testing an in-app checkout feature that enables customers to seamlessly purchase products right through the app itself.

Instagram has the capacity for being a great sales generator for direct-to-consumer brands but until now if someone wants to purchase something through an Instagram page they have to technically leave Instagram to do it. Being able to directly purchase in-app (Instagram would save customers’ credit card information so someone doesn’t even need to leave the couch to find their credit card in order to make the purchase!) holds great appeal. Especially when you think of the fact that consumers who choose to follow you on Instagram already have a certain level of trust and familiarity with your brand – these are the type of customers who are more likely to purchase from you in the first place. Maybe the right picture and easy checkout can facilitate help that!

Right now it looks like the checkout feature is only being tested with a very limited number of companies but if it works as hoped, Instagram says they’re going to roll it out to more brands.
